  2. For best results, spray the surface and let it penetrate for 3-5 minutes before scrubbing with a cleaning pad or brush designed for use on Teflon surfaces.
  3. Do not allow any cleaners or chemicals to remain on a refinished surface for any extended period of time. Rinse thoroughly and wipe the surface with a soft sponge or cloth.
  1. To extend the life of a refinished tub, apply an automotive polymer polish or Gel-gloss every six months. Meguiar’s M20 or Finish Kare 2180 are good choices.

Does a refinished bathtub require special care and cleaning?

Common questions about a refinished tub are….Does it need special treatment?  Is it going to be durable enough?  How long will it last?  How do I clean it?

The hi-tech acrylic resins used by Miracle Method are so hard and durable that we have seen jobs that still look great after 15 years or more.  Our finishes are strong and bonded onto the original surface with a proprietary bonding agent, called MM4, that has a 30 year track record.  It is because of our MM4 that we can offer a meaningful 5 year warranty that guarantees against any delamination of the new finish.

Our finishes do not need special treatment.  In fact, our care and cleaning instructions are very similar to the care and cleaning instructions you will find with brand new bathtubs from Kohler or American Standard.  These manufacturers recommend non-abrasive liquid cleansers.  Avoid using abrasive cleaners or corrosive chemicals like bleach as well as any product with strong acids such as Lime Away or Draino.

Clean Tub

Some cleaners are more effective than others.  Miracle Method produces and offers a very effective bath and shower cleaner called Mira-Clean.  It is safe for refinished tubs, yet equally effective on non-refinished tubs and showers.

Whichever cleaner you select, spray your tub and let it soak and penetrate the dirtier areas for several minutes. After 3 to 5 minutes, use a soft sponge or a brush designed for Teflon surfaces to scrub the surface, then rinse thoroughly.  Products like steel wool, abrasive sponges, and aggressive scotch bright pads will quickly damage most any tub finish…don’t use these!

Preventing and Treating Mold and Mildew

Here at Miracle Method, we firmly believe that surface refinishing is the best choice for bathtubs, ceramic tile, and kitchen countertops that need surface repair, making them look like new.  That said, we also firmly believe in routine maintenance and care for bathtubs.  Today, we’re going to be discussing preventing and removing mold and mildew.

Mold and mildew go beyond simply making a room unattractive. It can disperse microscopic spores into the homes air.  This is harmful to your health, and can cause anything from a mild allergic reaction to much more serious ailments.

Mold and mildew grow wherever there are high amounts of moisture and humidity.  For bathtubs, sinks, and kitchen countertops, one of the simplest preventative measures comes from using a squeegee to direct any remaining water or other liquids down the nearest drain.  With showers and bathtubs, post usage, squeegee down the glass doors or curtains as best you can.  All this help prevent the accumulation of moisture that can spawn mold or mildew.

You can help prevent mold and mildew by using typical household cleaning supplies such as bleach, dish soap, detergent and hot water to scrub out the respective areas.

For shower curtains (fabric or plastic), the simplest solution is putting them in a washing machine with hot water, heavy detergent, and a little color-safe bleach (3/4th of a cup).  After it’s washed, hang it up and let it air dry in a dry area.

For everything else, start with a couple spoonfuls of dish soap mixed with a bucket of hot water, and a non-scratch brush or scouring pad.  We recommend scrubbing the problem areas, as well as the surrounding areas.
