Spring Cleaning Your Household Appliances

March 24, 2016 By miraclemethod

Spring is the perfect time to catch up on all of those cleaning projects that only get done once or twice a year, like cleaning baseboards, blinds and ceiling fans. For a guide on deep cleaning your kitchen, you can refer to this previous post from January.

There are some areas of the home that obviously need cleaning, but what about the less obvious, like cleaning your household appliances? You spend a lot of money buying high-quality appliances and you want them to last, to perform at their full capacity, and also be energy efficient.

Guide to Cleaning Your Household Appliances

  1. Cleaning the Dishwasher
    • Dip a damp cloth in some baking soda and clean smudges off of the door. Use a scouring pad to remove stubborn spots.
    • Run a wash load using powdered lemonade mix or Tang (remove all dishes first!) to remove hard water stains and deodorize the interior. The acid in the powder helps the cleaning action.
  2. Cleaning the Microwave
    • Use mild dishwashing liquid, baking soda, or glass cleaner to wipe down the inside of the microwave. Wash the glass tray in the dishwasher or in the sink in soapy water.
    • Never use commercial oven cleaner inside the microwave oven.
    • For really stubborn stains, place a glass measuring cup filled with 1 cup of water and 1/4 cup vinegar inside the oven and boil for 3 minutes. The stains will come off much easier.
    • To remove lingering odors, place a dish of vinegar inside the oven and let it sit overnight.
  3. Cleaning Range Hoods
    • On a regular basis, wipe down the exterior and interior of the range hood with a damp cloth. For a more thorough cleaning, use a solution of hot water, dishwashing liquid and ammonia. Be sure to wear protective gloves.
    • Remove the filter cover and wash it in hot, soapy water. Wipe the blades of the fan with the same solution listed above.
    • Clean metal mesh filters and replace the filters on non-vented range hoods every 6-9 months or according to the manufacturer recommendations (refer to your owner’s manual.)
    • Do not wash charcoal filters.
  4. Cleaning Ovens
    • Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when cleaning your oven. The self-cleaning cycle, while effective, also shortens the life of the unit due to the extremely high temperatures. Commercial cleaners are also dangerous when they come in contact with your skin or eyes. Be sure to wear protective eye wear and gloves when cleaning your oven.
  5. Cleaning Refrigerators
    • Defrost the freezer section of your refrigerator when the frost gets to be about 1/2″ thick. Remove all of the food and place it in an ice chest to keep it cool. It’s good to do this when your supply gets low! It’s also a great time to toss any expired items or those with freezer burn- it happens to the best of us! Remove all shelves, racks and trays and wash them hot, soapy water. Dry thoroughly.
    • Use a hair dryer to help melt the ice.
    • Wipe down the entire interior with a mild spray cleaner. Dry thoroughly before returning the shelves, racks and food.
    • Vacuum the dust behind the bottom grill every 6 months.
    • Place an open box of baking soda in the back of the fridge to absorb odors. (Or try one of these– Arm & Hammer’s monthly replaceable filters!)
    • To clean the outside, use a damp cloth dipped in baking soda. Rinse well and dry with a soft cloth.

If you regularly keep up with these tasks, they won’t be too overwhelming and you can extend the life of your appliances!

Miracle Method Considers Yonkers Location for Expansion

March 11, 2016 By miraclemethod

Miracle Method has had one of its most successful years in its 35-year history.

The brand reports revenue across all locations is up around 12.5 percent in 2015 from 2014, and 59 percent of the company’s jobs have been residential, with 41 percent coming from commercial facilities including hotels, hospitals, property managers, colleges and universities, according to the company.

Miracle Method Considers Yonkers Location for Expansion

At its Rochester location, the company’s success has come from renovating dorm bathrooms and kitchens at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester, among other projects.

Yonkers proximity to Sarah Lawrence and West Community College would capitalize on its success with local universities.

The challenge Miracle Method has faced has been generating awareness of a cost-effective, professional solution that will transform the look of kitchens and bathrooms.

Surface refinishing is a solution for updating kitchen countertops, bathtubs and tile. Damaged or dated kitchens and baths can be repaired and given a new look in about two days for about 75 percent less than the cost of replacement.

The refinishing process starts with a technician preparing the surface with industrial strength cleaners, and then repairing any cracks, chips or defects in the surface. Next, the proprietary bonding agent is applied. Finally, in what looks similar to spray painting, the technician applies several layers of high tech coatings, which cure overnight. The technician will come back the next day for any additional detailing and to perform a buffing process to make the new surface smooth and shiny. Miracle Method also provides a business plan to franchisees, giving them access to corporate support and ongoing technical and administrative training opportunities.

Miracle Method Targets Arizona for Growth

March 3, 2016 By miraclemethod

Vision is what drives a successful business, but true success comes when it’s combined with a proven product. That’s the story behind Miracle Method, the nation’s largest professional bathroom and kitchen refinishing franchise.

Miracle Method Targets Arizona for Growth

Since 1979, Miracle Method has provided a unique niche service with proprietary technology, and it’s helped them emerge as the leader in their industry. Now, with a strong network through 137 territories throughout the United States and Canada that generate more than $50 million in annual sales, the brand is looking to partner with 15 new franchisees in 2016—starting in Arizona.

With one location already in Tempe and another in West Phoenix, John Tubiolo, Miracle Method’s vice president of franchise sales and development, said the brand is currently eyeing two open markets—Phoenix and Tucson.

With a population of 1.5 million and one million in Phoenix and Tucson respectively, Tubiolo believes these two cities have immense opportunity for the brand, thanks to their sprawling, multicity metropolitan areas. In additional to thousands of residential properties, Phoenix also boasts high-end resorts due to its popular golfing community. Meanwhile, in Tucson, the University of Phoenix offers another lucrative opportunity for the brand.

“The demand for refinishing is booming. We need more franchisees in territories like Phoenix and Tucson so we can better serve these markets and our national accounts. We think 2016 will be a big growth year for Miracle Method, and establishing a strong footprint in Arizona is a big step in continuing that momentum,” Tubiolo said.

Miracle Method’s customers include not only millions of homeowners, but also hotels, hospitals, property managers, colleges and universities, making the business very attractive to potential franchise owners. Its robust business plan gives franchisees access to corporate support and ongoing technical and administrative training opportunities. The brand is looking to attract owner-managers who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty, but can also scale the mobile business and focus more on development while trained technicians handle the resurfacing projects. Potential owners only need capital of, or access to, about $60,000 to $80,000 to get started, in addition to the $40,000 franchise fee. Franchisees start with two technicians and two vehicles, and the potential to grow to a multi-million dollar business.

“We are the leader in our industry and we strive to have the best systems in place for our franchisees so that they can experience success and growth in their business,” Tubiolo said. “I believe our greatest growth period is still ahead of us as more residential and commercial customers discover the benefits of refinishing.”

Tips for Organizing a Small Kitchen

February 23, 2016 By miraclemethod

Tiny houses are all the rage, but for some of us, the thought of less storage than we already have is very intimidating. Truth be told, we all have more “stuff” than we need, but it’s hard to part with things that are sentimental, or things that we don’t use often but are still useful, especially when it comes to entertaining. The challenge is, how do we maximize the space that we already have?

Top Tips for Organizing a Small Kitchen

  1. It may seem obvious (or maybe it’s not) – Do a major purge. It’s sometimes hard to let go of things, but if you’re holding onto something that you never use, donate it! If you haven’t used it for a year or longer, it’s time to let go.
  2. Get rid of any duplicates – how many spatulas, cheese graters, mixing bowls do you really need? Maybe you know a college student or a newlywed couple that is just starting out. Create a gift basket with your duplicates and give them a gift card to pick up something else they need. Your kitchen gets tidier and they get some tools they need without having to go out and invest in all new pieces.
  3. Stack plates and bowls with removable shelves. You can find inexpensive racks at the dollar store and maximize the space in your cabinets by stacking upward.
  4. Use Lazy Susans – easily access all of the items in the cabinet, rather than having to only utilize the space in the front of the cabinet that is within reach. A lazy Susan will allow you to store more and make use of all of the space in the cabinet.
  5. Use small bins to corral small, lose items like cookie cutters, chip clips, measuring cups and measuring spoons.
  6. Make use of vertical space with slide-out storage towers to store items in unused spaces like between your washer and dryer.
  7. Use office file organizers to store Tupperware lids and pots and pans vertically.
  8. Apply a rack to the wall for your spoons and spatulas to save drawer space.
  9. Use a hanging closet organizer on the pantry door to store snacks, rice packets, baking and sauce mixes to save shelf space.
  10. Install racks on the inside of cabinets to store spices, aluminum foil, olive oil, vinegar, etc.
