Business is booming for Miracle Method, the nation’s largest professional bathroom and kitchen refinishing franchise. Americans are spending more money on interior upgrades than they have in recent years, and the brand is on pace to bring in more than $60 million in revenue in 2016. However, that success isn’t solely due to Miracle Method’s consumer business. The brand is also growing because of its commercial clients.
Miracle Method’s national accounts team is constantly working to develop new business for its franchisees. And during the summer months, a large portion of that business comes from completing projects on college campuses across the country. The brand’s services are a perfect match for colleges looking to make upgrades to their academic buildings and residence hall restrooms—Miracle Method can completely refinish—and update restroom tile floors, walls and even partitions and vanities before students are even thinking about returning to their campuses.
“It comes down to the fact that we offer a viable alternative to removal and replacement,” said Don Dominick, Vice President of National Accounts for Miracle Method. “Take the University of Colorado for example— this summer, the restrooms in a 26-year-old academic building needed to be redone. A contractor said that for $70,000, they could replace the tile in two bathrooms in three weeks. We refinished the tile floors in all nine bathrooms in just two weeks for $31,000, which is exactly why our business at colleges is growing.”
Miracle Method has the expertise and capacity through its franchisees to do work on any college campus in any city. However, the brand spent years building up that strong reputation. Now, Miracle Method exhibits nationally and regionally at college facility manager conferences and advertises in Facilities Manager, a trade journal for college physical plant managers. Today, Miracle Method is recognized as the leader and innovator in surface refinishing by colleges and universities across the country.
This summer alone, Miracle Method has completed projects on more than 60 college campuses. And right now, 42 percent of the brand’s total revenue comes from commercial accounts. Four or five years ago, that number was hovering between the 17 and 20 percent marks.
“Every single refinishing project we successfully complete on a college campus opens the door for more. When college representatives call other universities that have used Miracle Method for a reference, they’ll be reassured that when they work with us, they’re getting the best possible quality and service,” said Dominick.
Both franchisees and the brand’s corporate team work together to secure these jobs on college campuses. When the brand recruits or is approached by a university, it reaches out to local franchisees in the area to do the work. And when franchisees sign their own deals with local colleges, the corporate team assists them from bid to completion.
One franchisee who has been on both sides of that process is Brian Weber, who owns Miracle Method’s Boulder, Colorado location. He says the commercial work has been invaluable to his business, which is why he’s pursuing more projects for his franchise.
“Working on college campuses is absolutely boosting my business’ momentum. It’s gotten to the point where I can employ two more people on my team because of how much work these commercial jobs are providing for us,” said Weber. “I’m excited to keep working with Don and the rest of the corporate team to add more of these college jobs to my line up.”
So this fall, as students across the country prepare to return to school, many will find themselves returning to beautifully updated facilities, thanks to Miracle Method.
