After rising through the ranks of corporate America for the past 27 years, franchisee Jim Kenney is finally able to live out his lifelong dream of business ownership with Miracle Method, the leading professional kitchen and bathroom refinishing franchise. A third-generation handyman, Kenney’s father served as a union carpenter working in Massachusetts his entire life, ultimately passing his love of woodworking and craftsmanship to his son. Kenney Sr. wanted a more secure life for his son, and urged him to go to college rather than follow in his footsteps as a handyman.
Honoring his father’s wishes, Kenney earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing and economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst before going on to earn an MBA in marketing from Western New England University. Though Kenney found much success in his career by working as a product marketing manager for major corporations spanning nearly three decades, he never lost the desire to strike out on his own.
“I’ve been woodworking since I was about seven-years old, doing all sorts of stuff,” said Kenney. “I’ve always had a passion for carpentry because of my dad. My first job at 14 was helping my neighbors build decks all summer–we’d construct decks, install windows and roofs. That’s the money I used to put myself through college. I earned my degree and worked 27 years in the corporate world, but had always wanted to go back into something I was passionate about.”
When Kenney began considering different business ownership opportunities three years ago, he remembered an experience that he had with Miracle Method almost two decades ago. Trying to remodel his entire kitchen and bathroom by himself, Kenney found the project to be more overwhelming than he expected. That’s when an acquaintance suggested he call on Miracle Method to assist with the remodel. Initially skeptical, he was eventually won over by the phenomenal job the franchise did.
In 2016, Kenney saw that an existing Miracle Method business that had been open for 30 years was for sale. After speaking with the team and looking at all of his options, he purchased the business in December of 2016. Start-up costs for Miracle Method are low for prospective franchisees looking to join the system, with initial investments ranging from $82,125 to $136,850.
“We’re very excited that Jim has joined the Miracle Method team,” says John Tubiolo, Miracle Method’s Vice President of Franchise Sales and Development. “His years of business experience coupled with his lifelong affinity for working with his hands make him a great fit. We’re confident he will continue to grow the Miracle Method brand in Massachusetts and provide his community with quality work.”
Going forward, Kenney plans to make Miracle Method an integral part of his Massachusetts community. And while running his own business takes a lot of hard work, he says it’s absolutely worth it in the end.
“I wanted to secure my own destiny and that’s why I took this leap,” said Kenney. “I’m not getting any younger, and it’s getting harder and harder to find another job in corporate America. Now’s the time to make the move. I’ve been looking for a unique, recession-proof opportunity that allows me to use my hands. And after a career working for both small businesses and Fortune 500 corporations, Miracle Method is the perfect opportunity.”
