For easy calculations, assume all of these jobs were exclusively bathtubs. Using an average refinishing price of $475 for each bathtub, that equates to 63,158 bathtubs. With an average bathtub measuring 5.5′ wide by 2′ tall by 2.5′ deep that’s 27.50 cubic feet per tub.

Multiplying 27.50 cubic feet x 63,158 bathtubs equals 1,736,845 cubic feet of bathtubs that were effectively “recycled” by surface refinishing instead of being tossed into landfills across the country. That’s enough cubic feet of waste to fill over 36,184 standard six-foot pickup beds each year… or 99 pickup trucks every day!”

What is the difference between laminate, Formica®, and Wilsonart®?

As we refinish many types of countertops, Miracle Method professionals are often asked if there is a difference between these popular countertop surfaces: laminate, Formica®, and Wilsonart®. The truth is, laminate, Formica®, and Wilsonart® are basically the same; laminate is the material while Formica® and Wilsonart® are the brand names. Both brands come in a wide range of colors and patterns and are widely marketed for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, and bar counters.

Regardless of how they are branded, laminate countertops are often a popular choice for homes and apartments as they are non-porous, easy to clean, and affordable. However, through everyday use laminate, regardless of brand, can be cut by sharp knives, chipped, or even scorched by hot pots and pans. As with other surfaces, colors and patterns also become dated and tiresome. At some point,  the homeowner or facility manager is faced with what to do with the ugly surface.
