Miracle Method Positions itself for Rapid Growth; Adds Industry Veteran to Leadership Team

As Miracle Method continues to build strong momentum in 2017 with the goal of executing 12 franchise agreements in the next 12 months, the brand recently announced the addition of industry veteran Gwyn O’Kane as VP of Franchise Development.

The New Zealand native recently joined the team after spending 20 years of his career in the franchise space, primarily in development roles. Most recently, O’Kane held a business development position at RYCO, before which he was the VP of Franchise development at PIRTEK for more than a decade.

“I found a professional passion in the franchise world where I could support others in achieving the dream of owning their own business and becoming successful entrepreneurs,” O’Kane said.

In his new role with the nation’s largest professional bathroom and kitchen refinishing franchise, O’Kane plans to bring his history and years of industry experience to work with people who want to be in business for themselves, but not by themselves.

When introduced to the Miracle Method concept, O’Kane was blown away by what the brand offers to customers as well as its franchisees.

“One of the things that struck me most as I was exploring Miracle Method was that we are really more of a marketing business that happens to do refinishing,” he said. “To find a franchise opportunity where a new owner comes in and the phone is already ringing with new client requests is incredible.”

Commercial Business Grows as Demand for Bathing Safety Options Grows

Every year, thousands of people suffer from slip-and-fall injuries due to slippery surfaces in bathrooms. In the case of seniors or the mobility impaired, even the simple act of stepping over the steep edge of a bathtub without the use of a properly installed grab bar can result in a slip and fall accident.

Miracle Method has long provided bathing safety and accessibility upgrades for customers in their homes. And with the liability for slip-and-fall accidents steadily increasing, Miracle Method franchisees are experiencing a large demand for bathing safety solutions in facilities such as hotels, senior and assisted living centers, apartments, universities, and other public facilities across the country.

For example, Miracle Method franchisees Phil and Dede Panarisi in Indianapolis, Indiana have partnered with several prominent state organizations recently looking to provide safer conditions for guests in their restrooms. Over the summer, the Panarisi’s worked with Spring Mill State Park to provide slip resistant surface updates to bathtubs in the rooms at Spring Mill Inn. Similarly, the demand for the same type of work performed in Indianapolis is up most parts of the country. Kevin Whiting, owner of Miracle Method of Pueblo, Colorado, recently provided necessary bathing safety upgrades for multiple hotels including the Spring Hill Suites in Pueblo and the Hampton Inn of Cañyon City. Bathing safety and accessibility upgrades not only create a safer environment for guests in bathrooms but also help hotels to reduce slip-and-fall liability.

“Many bathtubs that come from the factory have a textured bottom to act as a slip-resistant surface,” said Miracle Method VP of Commercial Services, Terri McPherson. “However, over time, this texture wears off, and when it does, it does very little to prevent slip-and-fall accidents.”

While bathmats or stick-on appliqués can provide a temporary solution, they easily collect mold and mildew, resulting in an unsanitary and stained surface. These short- term solutions are neither efficient nor effective for high-traffic areas such as restrooms, floors or shower pans at hotels or university dormitories.

Miracle Method’s unique application process outperforms many of these short-term options including a chemical etch, rubber mats, glue-on mats and appliques. KRDO Radio Business Hour: Miracle Method Addition to Fuel Brand Growth

Miracle Method recently announced the addition of franchise industry veteran Gwyn O’Kane to its leadership team to fuel brand growth. O’Kane recently shared the appeal of franchises for entrepreneurs and why can be more profitable than an independent business.

“New owners come on board, they follow the program, they become part of a larger network and they can become very successful business owners,” O’Kane said.

Miracle Method: Once an Employee, Now the Boss

Many people grow up dreaming of being their own boss and for two former Miracle Method employees that dream recently became a reality. Paris Birchfield and Xuanbin “Calvin” Xiao both worked at Miracle Method in Columbus, Ohio and decided it was time to team up and open a new location in Memphis, a previously untapped territory.

After moving to Ohio from China, when his sister was a student and his mother was a teacher at The University of Ohio, Xiao started working in the home remodeling and repair industry. He came in close contact with Miracle Method through a previous job and was always very impressed with the product, service and company as a whole. He jumped at an opportunity to work as an employee for Miracle Method and now will get the chance to lead his own team of employees as a franchisee of the business.

Birchfield moved to Columbus during high school. After graduating, he looked for a stable job that allowed further career growth and soon came across an advertisement for a Miracle Method position in the local newspaper.

“I started working as a technician for Miracle Method, which I did for about three and a half years,” said Birchfield. “I then moved my way up into a production manager role.”

Both Xiao and Birchfield found a home with Miracle Method and wanted to grow further in the company. Since they recognized the strength of the proven franchise model since 1979, becoming franchisees seemed like a natural fit.

“We started talking one day about the possibility of opening a Miracle Method location for ourselves and found that we were both on the same page with what we wanted out of our careers,” mentioned Xiao. “It was the right time for both of us, so we decided to follow our dreams and open our own location.”

Since working with the refinishing company for a combined 7 years, both Xiao and Birchfield have seen how high the demand is for affordable remodeling alternatives like surface refinishing and the difference it makes for homeowners. They were so passionate about the business opportunity that they were even willing to relocate to a new city to achieve their goals.

“Surprisingly, neither of us have any connection with Memphis,” said Birchfield. “Memphis is a completely open market so we thought we could really make an impact on the area by offering our services there; they don’t have anything like it. We also found many similarities between Memphis and Columbus, so we felt very comfortable with the move.”

As former employees of the brand, Xiao and Birchfield were able to achieve their personal goals of being a business owner. As franchisees, they know the invaluable support and training they will receive from Miracle Method’s Corporate Team but also understand on the ownership side the dedication and hard work it takes to succeed.

Miracle Method Cultivates Loyal, Dedicated Franchisees

Franchisees Tyler Murphy and Ryan Gladhill grew up in the Miracle Method family. For the past decade, the two have been Miracle Method franchisees themselves, and recently teamed up to bring the next generation’s passion to two existing franchises as new owners.

For nearly 40 years, Miracle Method has been the go-to service for homeowners seeking to upgrade countertops, bathtubs, showers, tile, vanities, and more. And throughout that time, Miracle Method has formulated a proven business model that attracts loyal, driven franchisees like Del Murphy.

In Sacramento, California Del operates one of the brand’s most successful locations. During his 35-year tenure as a Miracle Method franchisee, he’s developed a deep-rooted enthusiasm for the brand’s quality refinishing services. And now, that same passion for Miracle Method has trickled down to his son, Tyler Murphy.

Tyler grew up around the business, and that experience has allowed him to swiftly become one of the franchise’s youngest and brightest owners. His experience as a kid working with his dad at his Miracle Method shop – whether interacting with customers or filing paperwork, prepared him for entrepreneurship and his eventual move to open and operate his own Miracle Method franchise.

“I wanted to break the mold,” Tyler said. “My dad had been doing this successfully since the ‘80s, so I had a depth of knowledge and exposure growing up in the business and it felt like it was time to do something on my own.”

In 2007, Tyler decided to join the leading refinishing franchise with his own location launching Miracle Method in the Seattle, Washington area. In bringing the same resounding customer satisfaction that his father relentlessly pursued over the years, Tyler found great success in building his franchise.

During his time within the Miracle Method family, Tyler met and developed a close friendship with fellow franchisee Ryan Gladhill. Gladhill operates locations in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Maryland and has also earned a similar reputation as Tyler; a young, driven franchisee who’s brought with him a fresh outlook and energy to the booming refinishing business.

Gladhill comes from a similar background to Tyler’s. His parents were also Miracle Method owners and operators. And that passion – as well as the business itself – was passed down to him.

At the start of 2017, Gladhill and Murphy combined their history and experience to team up and take over Miracle Method of Riverside and San Diego, two existing franchises.

“I think this is such a unique experience, two kids being raised in the Miracle Method family, opening our franchises and then coming together to propel our growth to the next level.” Tyler said. “It just goes to show the strength of the business model and the proven demand for our refinishing services.”

During the acquisition process of Riverside and San Diego, the prior owner unexpectedly passed away. It was a shock to the entire Miracle Method family and devastating to Gladhill and Murphy, but without a second thought, Gladhill and Murphy decided to step in sooner than anticipated to take over the existing locations and help the grieving family focus on the loss of their husband and father rather than the business left behind.

“Ryan and I are both a part of the younger generation of Miracle Method’s franchisees,” Tyler said. “We have a similar business style and goals. Ryan is really good at taking on the large-scale jobs and commercial work. I’ve learned the business a little differently since I did a lot of residential work with homeowners, so there is a good balance and synergy between our experience and strengths.”

Both Gladhill and Murphy represent a bright, progressive future for Miracle Method. Their collaboration and teamwork has already positioned Miracle Method for a prosperous future. The proven support system and training Miracle Method has in place as a franchisor makes it that much more of an attractive option for prospective franchisees.

This is one franchise whose torch is being carried on from one generation to the next, an excellent validation of the nearly 40-year-old business model.
